Description:

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is an uncommon disorder of cardiac muscle typically on a genetic basis; however, the relationship of specific genotypes to clinical presentation is complex and still poorly characterized. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can be associated with outflow track obstruction, heart failure, and arrhythmias – it thus presents an important diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the managing physicians. The physiology is complex, but has major implications for the patient’s lifestyle, ability to tolerate surgery, and life expectancy.
